Patreon Survey

Hello guys, I wanted to talk about a few things. First is the Bara Audience Survey. It's going strong with 776 responses as of this writing. It will stop accepting responses on August 7th 9:00 PM PST. Take it here. This is your last chance to take the survey so please consider taking it if you haven't! Next is another survey I'm holding, this time it's about my game. Specifically, it's about the game's Patreon.

The game has a Patreon, where you can become a Patron to get the game's latest build a month before everyone else. You can check it out here. Since it's the first time I've ever used Patreon as a creator instead of a Patron, I decided to conduct a survey about what you guys want from a Patreon and see what I can do to improve my Patreon. You can take it here.

The purpose of this survey is to ask people what would cause them to become a Patron of my game. It also asks you what your financial situation is like so I can better understand my audience. I've done a bunch of research on what makes a successful Patreon, specifically looking at several furry gay VNs as to why they're making so much money. Some things I noted about a successful Patreon.

  1. The average money each Patron spends on these successful Patreons is tied heavily to the minimum amount required to get an early build. If the average is a good amount higher, that's usually because a higher tier gives you a build even earlier.
  2. I based how many Patrons a game had compared to the number of ratings they had on itch.io. This isn't perfect but it's the easiest way to see how popular a game is with the public rather than with paying customers. A game had a better Patrons:ratings ratio if the game had consistent updates every month.
  3. An "orthodox" Patreon communicates with its audience about things that is happening behind the scenes and pauses the Patreon's billing if there aren't any updates for the month. Not only that, but they also make frequent updates outside of Patreon as well to let non-paying fans know how the game's going. If they aren't doing these things, particularly charging Patrons without an update, their reputation will take a hit and things can easily go downhill from there.

This is based on observation and noticing trends, but that is what I found. That's how I based my Patreon on. I also put in a question about how people feel about me updating the game every two or three months. I haven't seen anyone that advertise they're doing a schedule like that with Patreon games, but maybe there's an audience who's willing to support such a person?

Anyways please take the survey. Again, you can take it here. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

PS: As you guys know, I'm taking a month-long break because of the game, Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I wrote my first impressions about the game just in case you guys were wondering how I was enjoying the game (Although I actually don't know many gay men who play Xenoblade games XD). You can read it here.
